Check in Device Manager (Right click 'My Computer' icon
and select manage).
Under the Sound, video and game controllers branch do you
see your hardware ?
Are there any yellow exclamation marks in device manager ?
(this means some piece of hardware that does not have the
correct software installed)
PLEASE REINSTALL THE DRIVERS FOR YOUR AUDIO HARDWARE.
(either from CD or download from manufacturer's website)
