Hi,

When I start my computer I always just click on my username to login.
However this morning it has asked me to type in my password to login. However
I do not have a password (I am 99% sure I never had to set up a password) and
consequently I cannot go any further than the login page. I have no idea how
to solve this problem and would appreciate any help that could be offered.

Thanks in advance,
James

Try starting in Safe Mode (press F8 as the system starts). At the Safe
Mode login screen, you'll now see the Administrator account. By default,
the password is blank. Once there, go to Control Panel, Users, and clear
the password for your user account.

Exit and restart normally.

You mean the Task Scheduler? There is no way around this; the scheduler
has to have a password to run, for very basic security reasons. So, use
the method described in the article at the link below to set a password and
use TweakUI to turn AutoLogon on, which will keep you from having to enter
the password every time. This does *not* mean that you can forget the
password! In some circumstances, such as, IIRC when a new account is added,
the AutoLogon will be turned off and must be re-activated.

XP PowerToys are here, and include TweakUI:
