Windows XP Home and XP PRO on one machine

I have XP home edition installed on my machine and in another partition, I
have installed XP PRO.

This is an attempt to salvage data that is stored with the corrupt home
edition version.

When I try to open the "My Documents" directory I get a message saying that
the directory is "inaccessable".

What can be done to retrieve these files?

It is my intention to reformat the HD after I have recovered these documents.

Windows Home edition will not complete the repair I have started, XP pro is
just there to help me recover these files.

I have backed up everything else...I just cannot get to the documents...

Thankx

If you have a spare hdd, pull your hdd, install the spare
(set your jumpers accordingly as Single), install XP Home,
and then attach the faulty one with a ide to usb cable
adapter. (these run like $15 online) The faulty hdd should
be jumpered as cable select or slave.

download the stuff you need.

Then you can put the hdd you wish to reinstall back in, and
install it normally.

Good luck!

Unnecessary.

Take ownership of the files:

In order to see the Security tab:

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. For XP Pro, in Folder Options>View uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'.
That is the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by
default in Pro, too.

If you hadn't encrypted the data files (and marking a folder
private is something completely different from encryption), you may be
facing nothing more than a simple permissions issue. Have you tried
taking ownership of the old folders?
