On starting up Win XP Home, it always displays the System32 folder. This has
to be closed before you can then open any other application. What do I need
to change so this does not happen.

If you have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card, see:

Hi,

I am having this problem.
I have entered registry to have a look for incomplete strings in the advised
keys. I have to be honest it is all very technical but would this cause a
problem:
there is something i am not sure if it should be deleted. It is:
name= default
type= REG_SZ
data= (value not set)

does this sound like it could be causing the problem?

No, that's a default, "template" entry. It is harmless, and is intended to
be exactly where it is.

You can't delete it, and even if it looks like you do, it'll be right back.

Hi Patrick thanks for your reply. Glad you said that because I was going to
delete it. I have just set up a string with all the details. I will paste
them below so you can have a look to see if you think there are any
suspicious items.

OK so I have a folder of system 32 opening every time I start windows. I have
read many web pages like:

System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086

For an automated Edit go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

I have found something which looks dodgy. What do you think?

Name= SoundMan
Type= REG_VZ
Data= SOUNDMAN.EXE

There is no C;\...
so no address and it just looks odd with capitals.

Also,
There are two in the other key. Have a look:

Name= CU1
Type= REG_SZ
Data=

The other is identical but name is CU2.
BOTH HAVE NO DATA. I should delete these I am thinking.

What are your thoughts Patrick? Do I need to reinstall XP or is there a
simpler solution? I.e. delete those items mentions above.

Thanks for help

Patrick dont worry problem solved. Another chap told me to delete the items
mentioned earlier which I did and the problem has been solved. Fantastic!!
Cheers for help mate
