windows xp help with many file extentsions wrong. dll, doc, dos,

alot of my file extetions are wrong. like my dos. files have dll. at the end.
and many of my programs are exe. to some other wrong extentions. please help
me get this back to normal. never worked with registry before.l is there a
program i can download or purchase to fix this for me. ??????????? thanks bob

you need to do a System Restore,

click START and enter Help and Support, then search for 'system restore' and
roll back to a previous date if it is not solved then rolls back a bit more
until it is fixed.

note: that some software installed since the extensions issue has happened
might need installing again.
