Windows XP hangs just before the logon screen

I have an HP Pavilion xt155 laptop with Windows XP home
edition installed. It just started freezing/hanging at
the blue windows logo screen, just before the logon screen
pops up. I can't seem to get past that screen. Any ideas
or help would be appreciated.

Try the option "last known good configuration"

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that, but no luck. I also ran hardware diagnostics, and they came out normal
I still just get the windows logo, but no logon screen. Any other ideas would be appreciated
