I need some help, I have a Dell Optiplex 260 with Winxp sp2. After I login I
get the desktop, and icons, then just a hour-glass. It is frozen cannot do
anything except Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I have tried safe-mode, a system restore,
and repair installation on the OS. Still same problem. Any ideas????

Thanks

Scott

Have you checked the Dell website for driver updates?

No, only because i cannot get into the PC at all. It freezes up. I did to a
msconfig from the task manager, that was how i was able to try a system
restore. But other than that I cannot get it.

Thanks

Can you get into Safe Mode? If you can can you run a virus check?

I can get into safe mode, but it does the same exact thing it freezes. So
what i did was I took that HD. and put it in another machine, and booted up
off of that HD. Ran a virus scan on the HD that freezes, found nothing. I
guess i will have to copy the data over and re-format. Damn.....

At what point does the machine freeze in safe mode?

Do you have a Windows XP CD or does your machine have a restore
partition?

Earlier you said it froze after login. Do you have more than one login
option?

In safe mode can you access the Start , Run option?
