Windows XP Firewall

I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and I am having problems
turning the firewall off. When you try and turn this off it is greyed out.

I am logged on as Local Administrator and also have domain admin rights and
still no success.

I would be grateful if anyone can help me on this issue.

Is it already off? Perhaps turned off by the third-party firewall
you're running?

ZoneAlarm, for example, does it for you.

Disable the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service with
services.msc.

[[ If you enable this setting, Internet Connection Firewall cannot be
enabled or configured by users (including administrators), and the Internet
Connection Firewall service cannot run on the computer.]]

[[If you are using Group Policy to configure Windows Firewall for computers
running Windows XP with SP2, the Group Policy settings you configure might
not allow local configuration. In this case, the options on the General tab
and the other tabs might be unavailable, even when you log on with an
account that is a member of the local Administrators group (a local
administrator).

Group Policy-based Windows Firewall settings allow you to configure a domain
profile (a set of Windows Firewall settings that are applied when you are
attached to a network that contains domain controllers) and standard profile
(a set of Windows Firewall settings that are applied when you are attached
to a network that does not contain domain controllers, such as the
Internet). You can determine which profile is in effect from the text in the
lower part of the General tab. If the text displayed is “Windows Firewall is
using your domain settings,” the domain profile is in effect. If the text
displayed is “Windows Firewall is using your non-domain settings,” the
standard profile is in effect.]]

This may be caused by Group Policies. Does it read "For your security, some
settings are controlled by Group Policy" at the top?

I'm also having this issue and do believe my computer is being controlled by
Group Policy. But when I open the Group Policy Snap-In, both the domain and
the standard are all set to "Not Configured." I cannot find any way to get
around this...I have found no documentation as to how to remove group policy.
I actually have run the command prompt verbage that shows me the firewall is
set to "Standard" and "Group Policy"....how can you disable the group policy.
Is that smart to do? I am not logged into the domain of the company and am
the administrator and only user of this computer.

Your help is appreciated.
