Windows XP Firewall Error - Re: WMI

I'm trying to enable the Windows XP SP2 Firewall but this is what is
displayed when I select the "Advanced" tab under my Connection properties:
"Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. The Windows
Management Instrumentation (WMI) information might be corrupted. To correct
this, use System Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time (called a
restore point). System Restore is located in the Systems Tools in
Accessories."

I've already tried the System Restore and reverted hard drive as far as I
was allowed. No success. Next, I've tried accessing "Change Windows
Firewall Settings." An another error occured displaying: "Windows Firewall
settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running.
Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
service?" After reading this message I clicked "YES." After clicking "YES"
another error messaqe occured displaying: "Windows cannot start the Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service."

These are the errors I'm receiving when trying to activate the Windows
Firewall. Another strange thing going on is in my "Start Button." The Start
Button is empty. No programs are listed in the left column. If anyone has
any type of information regarding these errors I beg of you to please advise.
This is a new one to me and I don't really know what else to do. Please
comment on anything related. Thank you so much.

Hi

I suggest you uninstall SP2 and then install it again to see if
that helps...

I agree, but perhaps another idea...

uninstall SP2, see if the firewall is working then. if it is, reinstall sp2
and have another go.

If it isnt , i dont know if the firewall would be covred in a system repair
( boot from cd into text mode setup) but its somthing to have a look into..
or buy a third party firewal.
