2nd Posting: Firewall Won't Start

G

Guest

My WinXP Firewall will no longer start. I get an error "Windows Firewall
settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running.
Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
service?"

When I select YES, I get another error: "Windows cannot start the Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service."

KB892504 says to see if DCOM process launcher is running and started
automatically. It is.

KB892199 has two different resolution methods. The first was okay as listed.
I performed the second and it did not resolve the problem. I also validated
the permissions as listed further down in the article.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. This one is beyond my scope.
Thank you,
-Bruce

What about this , Bruce ? :)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920074/en-us

then this -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892199

!!! IMPORTANT !!!
Before performing the suggestions in the links above , make sure your
computer is aboslutely virus/spyware/riskware free . Read the instructions in
my site to check your computer first and if something is found , perform the
malware removal steps again there . Then you can start troubleshooting with
your firewall

Good luck !!!

Bruce , I'd like to ask you some more things ... I gave you a linmk to
kb892199 which you said you have tried . My question is my you perform both
step 1 and 2 . It is to perform only one step (you choose which) . I
personally find 1 as easier :)

Try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920074/en-us

Also , do you have Norton or McAfee 2006/2007 product ?
