I have a Sony TR2 laptop. This machine only has 2 x USB and no serial or
parallel ports. Is this why the category "Ports" does not appear in Device
Manager?

I have set up a dialup connection and the modem works fine that it connects
to the internet. But when I use Windows XP fax, there is no connection and
I cannot send fax.

When I check on the properties of "fax" in Control Panel, the "Ports" tab is
NOT there. Is this the reason why I cannot send fax?

Appreciate any help because I really need to have the fax function. Thank
you.

You've lost me here. I don't know why you are looking for a "ports"
tab. When you open up the Control Panel and click on "Printers and
Faxs", you should see the icons representing your printer and the fax.
If there in no fax icon visible, my guess is that you have not
installed the fax component as yet.
