Windows XP / Explorer.exe / memory issue

I have installed windows xp pro as an upgrade over my windows 2000 pro last
night and i noticed a couple of problems with the new sys.

But one that i consider quite important is explorer.exe which keeps eating
up of my PC memory when i use it and the funny thing is when i minimize the
windows explorer window the memory usage of explorer.exe goes down to less
than 1 meg but the problem starts all over when i start using explorer
again.

if any of u guyz had similar experience or know a solution to this type of
problem pls help me here coz this thing is driving me nuts!

When you say "explorer", I am guessing that you mean "Internet
Explorer". So this would mean that your problems are occurring when you
are online. That means your first troubleshooting steps should be to
scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not earlier
than 2002 and using updated virus definitions). Also, remove spyware
with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de and Ad-aware
from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs before
running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal tools in
Safe Mode. You'll also want to check your startup (XP has "msconfig"
like Win98 where Win2k doesn't) to be sure you don't have legitimate
but intrusive programs checking for updates (Real Player, Quicktime,
etc.)

If this *isn't* what you meant and you know your machine is clean, lean,
and mean, then please post back with more details about your system.
Please include what you've already done to troubleshoot the problem.
