Windows XP Embedded Runtime License

C

Confused

I'm confused! We are a POS manufacturer and have been
delivering our systems with both XP and Windows 2000
embedded preinstalled without a hitch for some years now.
However, we have now been told that we must configure our
systems so that end users have no access to the standard
Windows shell, i.e. the Start button, task bar, etc...

My colleague and I have both read, and re-read, our
recently received extension to our license agreement and
this does indeed seem to be the case.

WTF! Is this really the case? Do we now have to deliver our
products with our own shell? Has anyone else come across
this situation?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Are you sure that you are talking about "Windows XP Embedded" product?

Windows shell, start button, task bar are normal and allowed things to have.
Your main concern should be the usage of your device. For instance Office
and similar non embedded applications are not allowed, shell and environment
can be any that you like.

To clarify, the issue we have is with both "Window XP Pro
for Embedded Systems" and "Windows 2000 Pro for Embedded
Systems".

In both cases it now seems that we cannot include the
standard Windows UI on our target machines.

This is why I'm confused.

(I would quote from our documentation but we are tied to a NDA)
