Delayed activation of Windows XP embedded (activating the preinstalledOS)

T

Thomas Zangl

Hi!

Our OEM ships the hardware (motherboard + flashdisk) with Windows XP
embedded preinstalled on the flash disk. The reason is unkown (maybe
some special device configuration) but unfortunatly the OS expires after
28days.

The OEM tells us that we need to purchase the embedded runtime licenses
and then activate the product. We now have 20+ licenses + the embedded
toolkit but we are unsure how to do the activation procedure.

I know that it will be done during image creation in the Studio Tools
but we cannot create an image because of the OEM hardware.

So, how can we activate windows w/o creating a new system image? Are
there any tools?

TIA,

Hi Thomas

Wow, I never heard such a problem..!!!
Every OEM, providing a XP-Embedded Image
preinstalled on a Hardware, must have a valid
license (license sticker) on the system and a
non-timebombed-version of the image
preinstalled.

If there is no license sticker on the system, the "OEM"
is not an "OEM" and has only installed a evaluation image
(120 days time-bombed after first installation).

There is no chance (legaly) to apply a activation after deployment
to a XP Embedded Image.

Now, with the Target Designer and the licenses, you are the OEM
and you have to start from scratch to make a XP-embedded image.
(or ask the "non OEM" for the project .SLX file)

You have to enter the activation (PID) code into the target designer tool
before building the system. Then, the timebombe is gone.
But this is the only way.

I am more than happy to help you in this case, I am responsible for
licensing in Central Europe. From your name, I presume that your are located
in Austria. So you can contact me under:

Hi Thomas,

Any OEM ships XP Embedded preconfigured, it should be licensed. If it
not licensed, then it might be for evaluation purpose. Normally some
OEMs send XP embedded as a evaluation image if it is just for testing.

If you need to license it, then OEM have to rebuild the image with PID
and provide with license.

If you are unusre how to proceed, you can contact us and we can help
you prepare a image the way you want.

We are specialize in preparing XP embedded on PCs and Laptops based on
end user requirement.
