Windows XP does not recognize cameras

Hey Microsft's people...

I'm running Windows XP SP2, and I have all current updates from Microsoft
Update available on my computer. The problem is, my computer does not
recognize any camera connected to it. I've connected a Canon PowerShot A430,
a BenQ DC E40, and a Kodak EasyShare CX4210. However, everytime I connect
these cameras, a yellow dialogue appears from the system tray saying that the
USB device cannot be recognized by Windows. I've installed all drivers and
software given by the camera's manufacturers. I've even did e clean install
of windows Xp, and even formatted and reinstalled my Windows XP, but still it
didn't work out. Any hints, guys?

TIA,

Firqin

Do you have any problems with any other USB devices? You can try to remove
USB Root Hub from device manager. XP will recognize it. Then reboot and try
again.

Hello Mr. B. Sonmez,

I've tried to remove/uninstall the USB Root Hub from my device manager. It
still does not recognize my cameras. However, even before I tried to remove
the USB Root Hub, my USB printer, flash drive and external hard drive are
working perfectly.

Anything where you help me with?

Anyway, thanks for your sincere help.

Firqin.

Check the manufacturer's website to see if they have any updated software. Sometimes the stuff on
the CD is older than what is available from the site.

Have to ask,
Did you install as per manu instructions, which normally means installing
the software, prior to plugging in the camera.

Winxp should bring up the camera/scanner wizard without the need to add
additional software. See if you can hook up the camera on another xp
machine to test. If all else fails, get a card reader.

This can be lack of DC power or a bad cable.
Try to get a *powered* USB 2.0 hub. Note that all your devices that are
working, are either self powered, or low power (USB stick).
A camera can consume much more than USB stick.
