You can buy a site license from Microsoft for your business,
but with only 5 computers it may not be any less expensive
than buying your software as individual packages.
The manufacturer's (OEMs) such as Dell offer almost any
software you want at very good prices. The selection of
what software you get depends on whether you select the
"display" model from the web site or click on the
"customize" button and look at the software offered.
You will want Windows XP Professional so you have the
security options on your LAN in your business. That is a
little more expensive than XP Home and you have to select
the option.
You may want or need OFFICE XP or 2003 but be aware that it
comes with several different applications. There is OFFICE
Small Business Edition with WORD, EXCEL, Outlook and
Publisher, that does not include PowerPoint. OFFICE
Standard has WORD, EXCEL, Outlook and PowerPoint.
If you need a database program you want OFFICE Professional
because in includes Access in addition to the Standard
selection of items.
When you buy your computer, look at business computers, they
will have fewer flashy and expensive video cards and the
software packages will be more likely to include what you
need.
