We have suddenly developed a problem.

Due to equipment needs, certain machines are constrained to running Windows
98 and Share level permissions.

My XP machines (WINDOWS 2000 AD Clients with GP) are now having difficulty
getting to these machines. Windows 2000 clients are not having problems.
The XP machines are popping up with the GUEST account for the machine filled
in and greyed out.

Meanwhile, on the W2k machines the username is blank and all that has to be
filled in is the password. I can find nothing in the GP to cause this
behavior, and these did work before.

I wanted to go to Domain Auth. on the Windows 98 boxes but there was an
application issue with that keeps me from this. Although, it may be notable,
that this did work from a networking point of view(and security...but that's
just me...). Does anyone have any ideas as to the possible causes, or
remedies to this situation?

Oh, there is one more thing, several machines where the password was
inadvertently saved, still connect. But the others will not.

I just developed the same problem after installing some of the latest MS
security updates to my winxphe on my home network with several win98se
machines. So far the only solution I have found is to remove the
passwords on the shares (a great security update!). Have you found a
solution??
