Every now and again my windows xp SP3 clock resets to 1st jan 2005 00:00. I
have to change it manually. Is there a reason for this, it has only started
doing this over the last week.

It happens while the computer is powered off?

Almost certainly, you need to replace the inexpensive battery on your
motherboard. One of its purposes is maintaining the date while the
computer is powered off.

I would say same thing.. battery on the motherboard. They probably cost $2
or $3 to replace. They're little flat, round batteries. Usually starting
with CR and then a number after it. You can usually pick the up at Radio
Shack.
