Auto time & date reset

Guest

Hi,

Every night at middnight, XP automatically resets the date to Jan 1st 2001
and the time to 00:00. This only seems to have happened since the UK clock
change. Any ideas on cause and how to stop it?

Needless to say I've ran security scans etc (I have Norton Internet Security
2006 fully up to date and always switched on)

Any help gratefully received.
Cheers
Barry

Check the CMOS/BIOS battery and changing it if necessary. It is usually a
sign the it is weak.

No, not at all true.It can not be the battery This happens while the
computer is running, exactly at midnight, and changes exactly to January 1,
2000, 00:00:00.

The battery isn't used while the computer is running. It's in place to keep
the BIOS settings while the computer is powered off. Problems with the clock
are likely to be the battery (but never for this specific a problem) *only*
if they occur while the computer is powered off.

I've never seen this specific problem, and don't know what's causing it, but
it can not be the battery.
