Hi Everybody.

Can sombody please tell me if I use the backup client included in Windows XP
and choose to backup the whole system.
Will this restore everything including installed programs, user profile etc.?
Or do I have to install some programs agin by myself?
Also if I choose to backup to a DVD.
Will the backup client tell me to insert another DVD if the 1st one is full,
like it does if backing up to floppy disks?
Any tip would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes.

You need something like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost to do what
you want to do.

Alias

I would recommend that you consider investing in
an external drive designed to create backups automatically.

Windows ntbackup can restore a complete system (installed programs, user
profile, etc) IF system state is included You must be sure to check that as
well as the drives. (There seems to be some confusion about this and note
that the info from 'Alias' is incorrect.) However, ntbackup does not work
with CD and DVDs.
Although ntbackup is usable with tape or external drives, imaging programs
like Acronis or Ghost have many advantages, and would be a better option.

Thanks to all of your replies.
I do have Norton Ghost, but never used it.
Would this drive image (I think that is what Ghost does) if restored,
restores the complete syatem including all the settings etc.?
And also can it be backed up to DVD's?
Because I think 1 DVD is definitly not enough and if the 1st DVD is full
does Ghost automaticly asked for the next DVD?

Thanks again to all of you.

Why don't you *read* the information that came with your version of Norton
Ghost?

Some versions do that, and some don't.
