Windows XP audio dissapeared. Device manager says:working properly. And its enabled.

Windows XP audio completely dissapeared. Volume control and all. Device
manager says: device is installed and working properly. Its enabled,
and I made sure I updated the drivers. But I still dont have ANY sound
at all. Completely odd, the pc contradicts itself when it says device
is working yet when I go to control panel and check audio it says
"there is no device installed" SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!!!
