Hello-

I have a computer that came with Windows XP Home. Now,
I'm trying to test a Learning Management System we have
that works using MSSQL Server 2000 and MS Windows 2000
Server. The MSSQL installed without a hitch, but when I
try to install MS Windows 2000 Server, I get this
message: "This CD-ROM is from an older version of Windows
than the one you are presently using. Setup functionality
from this disk will be disabled."

Is there any way I can get around this problem and get
Windows 2000 Server installed on my box?

Thanks

Sorry to spill the beans, but you are going to have to
format the machine. Older software does not understand
newer software, but newer software understands how the
older software works. Thats why you have too format and
install 2000 server 1st.
Any further questions? Email me (e-mail address removed)

This is a normal situation.

There are two posibilities

1. If you upgraded your system from windows 2000 (for example) and you check the option to save the files from the older system then you can roll back the windows XP installation to the earlier version from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel

2. The other thing you can do is create a new partition on your disk and installing windows 2000 Server there. No w you are going to have a dual boot configuration with the two systems. Be carefull with this, cause you probably going to lose two files that you need to boot the windows XP system. Then You have to save this two files before installing windows 2000: NTLDR and NTDETECT.
