When I upgraded the operating system to Windows XP I lost
my Outlook contacts and calendar. Since MS no longer
supports Outlook 97 they would not help me reestablish
the link. When I try to open Outlook I get the
following: Unable to open your default mail folders.

Hi Woody,

RESOLUTION
To resolve this error message, log on to Windows at the logon prompt,
rather than clicking Cancel, to gain access to Windows. Logging on to
Windows configures the system for offline authentication in Microsoft
Exchange Client and Outlook.
