I've recently bought a new pc with windows xp home edition
on it. When trying to load the office 97 cd onto my
computer, it said "connot find any of the qualifying
products listed...".

How do I get office 97 on my computer, I prefer word to
the xp word prossesor!

It's likely your previous computer had a qualifying product
installed that allowed you to install Office 97 Upgrade on them.

Without a qualifying product, you cannot install an upgrade version
of Office 97. If that's the case, go out and purchase either Microsoft
Word 2000 or the "full version" of Office XP.

Nicholas does, of course, mean Word 2002. Word 2000 is no longer available
retail.

You're trying to use an upgrade Office CD. That requires that you
have a previous version, either installed or on a CD to insert as
proof of ownership.

How do I get office 97 on my computer,

Sorry, but you'll need to buy a non-upgrade copy.

By "xp word prossesor," I assume you mean WordPad. I don't blame
you! WordPad is not a real word processor at all--just a
glorified text editor, suitable only the simplest of jobs.

Rob, the Office CD you have is an upgrade. It wants to see the old
version of Office that was used to qualify for the upgrade price.

During the installation, read the screens carefully. It's possible this
setup program will allow you to temporarily insert the older Office CD
into the CDrom drive. If it allows you to do that, it will then tell you
to reinsert the Office 97 CD and will finish the installation.

NOTE: You may want to install the qualifying product first. Then install
Office 97 to a different folder. When finished, uninstall the qualifying
product. As long as that qualifying product will install to WinXP, that
would work too.

I think you have an office 97 upgrade version and you need something like
WP5 (even dos) or a prior version of office product. Unless you can mabey
copy the directory from your old drive to a temp directory on your new
computer and it may install. I think it just looks for like word.exe. or
excel.exe so you may just need to put them on your new machine long enought
to install.
