Windows XP and IE freeze up problems

When I start Windows XP everything seems to run just fine. But when I start
IE everything except IE freezes up for 12 to 15 minutes (I can double click
on Word or Solitare or anything else and it takes this long to open). I can
generally go anywhere I want to on IE though. It only freezes up at the
start of the day. If I sign off and sign on again in a few minutes it does
not seem to happen again. But the next day the cycle starts all over again.
I do have and run up-to-date virus software (Trend Micro Internet Security)
along with Ad-Aware and Spy Bot Search and Destroy. Any ideas what to do?
Thanks!

It sounds like something is running and taking up all the processors time -
I've had a similar problem with an anti-virus program scanning a windows
update as it downloads.

Right click in the task bar and get the Task Manager up click on the
Processes Tab and Start IE and check to see if it really is IE that's hogging
the processor. If there's anything else running at 90%+ try to find out what
it is - you might have some spyware in there.
