My Windows XP install hung or froze, I pressed the reset button to
restart and the IDE disk was detected correctly but Windows XP will not
boot, it just gets to the screen with the Windows XP logo and then
reboots, I try safe mode and the same results, any help as to what could
cause this to happen?

If xp install hung or froze, but youre accessing safe mode, youre not installing
xp correctly...Set BIOS to boot to xp cd (1st boot device or similiar),once
at
xp cd boot menu, install xp,delete the partition, create one, then let xp format
and install. From this proccess how would one try safe mode on a failed
xp installation.......
