Recently, when I fired up the 'ol PC, I noticed @ the bottom right of my desktop the following statement "Windows XP Home Edition Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633(Service Pack1). It wasn't there before, and I don't want it now. I'm not impressed and am seeking advice on how to remove it. thanks, pete

xpsp2? I assume you have installed service pack 2 for XP. This is still in
testing. You should refer comments like these back to the sp2 team not as an
XP general problem.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP (an immensely useful toll for a lot of Tweaks).

Its General page bottom item: Uncheck 'show windows version on Desktop'
