What is the difference between Windows XP 64-bit Edition
vs. Windows XP 32-bit Edition vs. Windows XP
Professional. The reason I am asking is the options
Microsoft gives when you need to download and install
crital patches

Michael:
You are most likely running Windows XP 32-bit, regardless of whether it is
Home or Pro. The 64-bit edition is designed for use with high-end (read very
expensive) systems. More info is available on the'net.

The 32-bit edition comes in two versions--Home and Professional.
The 64-bit edition comes in Professional only, and is available
only for the expensive 64-bit Intel Itanium processor.

Almost certainly you have the 32-bit edition. Almost anybody who
has to ask the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit
version requires special hardware. It and the hardware have come
down in price, but are still substantially more expensive than
the standard consumer PCs you see around. Very few home users are
using it.
But if you want to check to be sure, enter WINVER at the Start |
Run line.
