Windows XP & 2000 running together

I just installed Windows XP full version and was told
it would wipe out Windows 2000 as it installed. Not true.

Now, when I boot up I have a choice of opening with XP or
2000. I tried booting with 2000 just to see what happens
and it's unstable and doesn't work well at all. Windows
XP opens and runs fine.

But 2000 still has all my old files on it. I don't need
those files anymore.

When I try to save an attachment while I'm in XP it
points to the files in 2000 rather than XP.

What can I do?

Hi Dennis,

You created a new installation instead of an upgrade to an existing system,
so you ended up with a dual boot. Simply delete the Win2000 system folders
from Windows Explorer, then remove the line referencing it from boot.ini
(hidden system file on the root of the boot partition).

To "correct" the WinXP installation afterwards, you may want to run a repair
installation. Follow these steps to do a repair install which should
preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.
