I tried to install windows xp onto a laptop which
previously ran under windows 2000. Now I have both
operating systems available but my office products will
not work under xp only 2000. When I try to run them
under xp I get a message that I need to run setup from
the point that the program was originally installed
from. But back in windows 2000 everything works fine.
Any thoughts ?

You can not run complex apps like Office that has been installed for Windows
on one partitions while booted into another copy of Windows. Some apps work
as they're simple, but office is a big beasty and will need to be installed
for version of windows

If you set up a "dual boot" of Windows 2000 and XP, you will need to
re-install all application again into XP. Windows XP has its own registry
and you need to install the applications so that XP can know about it.

Greetings --

Thoughts? I really don't see how the error message could be any
more clear. Boot into WinXP and install the desired applications. In
a dual-boot situation, any applications that need to be used in both
operating systems must obviously be installed in both operating
systems. One OS cannot access the registry and system files of the
other.
