Windows won't use the PCI graphics adapter

Just did a clean XP install and windows won't use the PCI video card. I get video during loading screens but get black screen instead of login. Does anyone know a workaround for this?
 
Use Safe Mode or VGA mode on the Startup menu (Press F8 just before windows boot and after the computer's "I'm OK" beep)

VGA mode is best (runs the current driver as VGA) and will allow you to install the correct drivers for your card.
