Hi Chrystal,

my computer wouldnt start, so I had to do a system
recovery on it. Now it says it cant start because the
file (windows root)\system32\hal.dll. is either missing or
corrupt. How can I fix this problem?

Boot from the XP CD, press R to get to the Recovery Console, select
the number of your Windows Installation (generally 1), enter the
administrator password (the one used when first installing windows)

When the prompt appears, type:
bootcfg /list will show the list in boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild will rebuild it.

You may need to enter the BIOS to change the boot order:
