Windows will not start

I was having tons of lockup and blue screen errors. I tried to troubleshoot
and run multiple diagnostics - to no avail. In frustration I transferred all
files and folders to my second drove and then performed a new install of XP
on my primary drive. As I was bring files back into the C drive I started
having lockups. I continued to bring back files. Eventually the system
locked up - I could not clear so I powered down manually. Now the system
will not come back up saying that the services.exe and lsass.exe failed to
intialize properly ( it shows to errors for each of the .exe files). I
opened up the recovery console. I ran fixboot and ran chkdsk. System locked
up in checkdsk. I tried to make copies of special boot disk - nothing works.
Can anyone help me get this beast opened??

Sorry to say I'm not optimistic. If chkdsk fails, it's pretty certain that
beast is dead. You can obtain hard drive diagnostic software from most hard
drive makers that would tell you for certain, but I advise against stressing
the drive any further. My advice is to try to access the data and save it
asap. If chkdsk runs at all, and you have the recovery console, it's a good
sign you can get _some_ of it anyway.

perhaps, the cabling that
connects the disk to the
power and to the motherboard
are loose or frayed.

perhaps, you simply ran
out of disk space on the
c drive and nothing can
fit on it and nothing can
be preformed on it.

what you might want
to try is to install windows
on that secondary disk.

then from that disk with a
functional operating system,
you can then use the computer
as needed and or to operate
on the dysfunctional drive.

a similar method to the
above would be to
remove that dysfunctional
disk from you computer
and install it into another
as a slave drive. then use
that operating system to
operate on the dysfunctional
drive.

and yet a similar method to
the above is to remove the
disk with copies of your
personal files and install
a new harddrive in its place.

then install windows on it
in order to operate on the
dysfunctional disk.

if and when you are able
to regain some functionality
with your pc then let
us know so that we can guide
you a bit more.

keep in mind that what you
should not do is to reinstall
the o.s. on the dysfunctional
disk - yet.

instead the methods above
suggest to install an o.s. on
a separate device/disk in attempt to
preserve your data on the
faulty device/c drive.

Thanks for the input guys. I found a tech suggestion that said I should boot
up with the XP cd but not the recovery console. The instructions take past
the normal download option to a repair option. IT WORKED and I am back in
service. Thanks

it is fortunate that
a 'repair installation'
proved to be helpful.

however, it is likely
temporary based on
the underlying issues
your described.

One of the symptoms of a failing disk is that the system will freeze as it
tries to deal with read or write errors.

Would suggest you try replacing the disk.

Was it a "format disk" install, or a simple re-install?
Lots of junk gets left behind (And is hidden) on a simple re-install
