Windows will not start up

Okay, first of all you should know that my computer has been having problems
for a while. There has been little errors in the dvd drive (I'll put in a
blank dvd and it will then show up under my computer as a cd drive until I
take the dvd out.), plus my compaq restore cd will not run, it starts to,
then goes to a blank screen and restarts again to go into the same loop.

I heard somewhere that starting windows under the 'last known good
configuration' might help with this, so I tried it, and now windows refuses
to start at all. It brings up something about a change in the
hardware/software configuration that is preventing windows from starting.

Windows never had a problem until I did this. Any idea at all on what it
could be?? I tried to get into chat support on this site, but for some reason
it won't accept my product key. My copy of windows XP home edition came
pre-loaded with my compaq computer, and none of the numbers on the label on
the back work. Since I can't bring up windows, I can't go into it to find the
ID there. ^_^;

Rivvie,

Sounds like you are having some sort of hardware problem. I would
suggest restoring the system, but if the CD won't run it's not helping
your situation. Do you have a Windows XP Home CD in addition to your
Compaq restore CD?

If it did (and I have a feeling it must have), it's been about five years,
and it must have gotten misplaced at some point. ^_^;

Darn, I was hoping it would be some technical term..

Oh well..

I'll see what I can do about replacing the dvd drive (since it is the only
one that showed any kind of errors before.)

I'll get back to here after I get it and post the results.
