Need some help. Trying to install XP pro on a new computer my son has built
and having problems. He gets the disc to boot, windows runs through all the
install stuff then reboots. After the reboot it try to reinstall and will
not see the hard drive. It is a 250gb drive and if he does it on a 150gb no
problem.

Any clues he is getting very frustrated.

Set BIOS to boot to xp cd (1st boot device or similiar),boot to cd,select
r For recovery, ignore the text at recovery after "change keyboard layout",
simply type:DiskPart In DiskPart, delete the partition,or simply create one,
after press ESC key,type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs When thru,type:EXIT Reboot
to xp cd,install xp.

It sounds like XP needs a driver for your hard drive controller. If you
tell us the hard drive mfg and model number along with the motherboard
mfg and model number someone may be able to help you. Stopping at 2% is
no copy at all it just read some information from the CD and couldn't
find a place to put it.

You need to use the driver disk supplied by your hard disk controller or
RAID controller manufacturer and hit F6 at the start of setup when it tells
you to hit F6 to install additional drivers.
