Windows volume control

Bill

XP on an Intel D865GBF motherboard by default uses
SoundMAX Digital Audio for the system sound control.

I somehow have lost the volume icon from the identification
area of the system tray. When I open Control Panel and
look in the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" sheet,
I get an error message from Windows that the "Volume
Control" program has not been installed when I try to check
"Place volume icon in the taskbar".

I don't see anything in "Add/Remove" system components
that suggests anything to do with volume controls. Also, I
reloaded SoundMAX from the Intel motherboard disc but
that didn't resolve the issue.

Any ideas as to where the so called "Volume Control" program
might be?

Thanks,
Bill

Wesley,
That resolved the problem. How Sndvol32.exe got deleted from the
System32 directory is a mystery. However, I restored it from the
XP product disc and all is well now.
Thanks,
Bill

Sndvol32.exe is the Volume Control.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Sndvol32.exe
