Windows Vista Security Alert Problem

Guy Thomas

On my toolbar I have a Windows security alert. It takes me to Windows
security Center which informs me under the title Malware that

1) Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer

2) Windows Defender is turned off

However: The computer has Norton Antivirus software and the Defender is
turned on.

Any ideas on how to resolve this circular argument?

What version of Norton are you using? If it's pre-2007, it's not compatible
with Vista. You'll need to upgrade to get it working.

It's the latest version of Norton purchased one month ago along with the new
Vista machine. Only other software is Office 2007.

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Security Center wasn't "seeing"
Norton NIS 2007 (both firewall and AV) and it said defender was off. I used
system resore to get things working again. From reading through the Vista
newsgroups it seems this issue is not purely restricted to Symantec
products.
