Hello!
Can someone help me little. We have corporate network with file-server
(Linux with Samba) and many computers with XP. All is ok every PC can connect
to server using user name and password.

But PC with Vista working not correctly. This PC can access other PC on the
network, and other PC can access them. I can connect from Vista OS to our
server, but when it requires to login and I enter correct user and password -
Unable to login. I changed configuration for this user to login without
password and can connect now without any problems. But impossible to do it
with password created. Maybe Vista have some difference from old OS in
login/passwords authentification?

Can someone help me with this problem?

With best regards, Alexandr.

First make sure you have the latest version of Samba on the server and
update it if you don't. Then make these changes on the Vista
boxStart>Run>secpol.msc [enter]

Click on "Local Policies" --> "Security Options"

Navigate to the policy "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication
level" and double-click it to get its Properties. By default Windows
Vista sets the policy to "NTVLM2 responses only". Use the drop-down
arrow to change this to "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if
negotiated".

In Vista Home Premium, you won't have this tool so per MVP Steve
Winograd, do:

1. Run the registry editor and open this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel

3. Set the value to 1

4. Reboot:
