windows vista freezing

A few weeks ago, my laptop started to freeze sometimes. It typically happens
when
I didn't use my laptop for a moment. As long as I'm busy with the laptop, no
freezing appears. Now I play iTunes constantly which makes the laptop not
freezing anymore, but I'd rather find the cause instead of avoiding it.
When freezing, this happens: no bluescreen or error, my screenview is still
completely normal,
it only doesn't react to anything anymore (mouse, keyboard (ctrl alt del),..
no reaction at all) My only option is to manually press the on/off buttom to
restart.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Well give it a jacket then! Hehe, sorry couldn't resist.

The first thing you should do is hit the caps or num lock button to
check and see if the keyboard reacts at all by turning on/off the
indicator lights. Also check the event viewer to see if there is more
info there. Good luck.

I would guess either you are getting very low on system resources due
to something Vista is doing in the background when it detects you
aren't busy or there's a memory leak somewhere. While a bit elaborate
to go into detail here I've seen at least two specific sequences of
events that I can repeat that will all but guarantee Vista slows to
crawl and exhibits the classic low system resource signs, non
responsive keyboard, you can see things getting slowing redrawn on
screen, applications take ten times longer to load or respond, etc..

Once I stop doing the sequence that brings on this event, things
return to normal without any intervention on my part.

What causes Vista to do this I don't know, but I do know I can cause
it just using Vista applets exclusively like opening too many instance
of Photo Galley.

thanks for the reply,

i checked task manager (ctrl alt del), and saw that my available physical
memory
is very low (total: 2045MB, in cache 1367, available: between 2 and 60 most
of the time). Could this cause the problems? (what does 'in cache' mean?)
(my CPU-usage is around 5%, and memory-usage 925MB of 2GB)
ah, and how to check event viewer?
