Windows Vista Forums and logging on from 2 computers

Unfortunately Comcast is about to end my foray into
newsgroups by pulling the newsgroup plug later this
month.

After 15 years I may have to retire my Gravity newgroup
reader and just use Web based forum support.

Yesterday I logged onto the Windows Vista Forums for the
first time. It is a fairly active group, but I hate
using a Web Browser to do what a newsgroup reader does.

For example, the Web Browser must store some signature,
or cookie from the machine you first connect and
register with. My initial registration for the forum was
from my office machine, if I try to log onto the forum
at home it never succeeds, I am always a guest. My
office computer logs me on easily, in fact when I
attempt to logon at home, if I connect by Remote
connection to the Office I noticed I am logged on with
my user name there.

I've left messages with the Forum moderator to help
resolve this, but there has been no response. Anyone
know how to solve this issue?

Thanks

There has been talk of this in other newsgroups and people are
recommending http://www.motzarella.org/ for free newsgroup access. It's
not web based so you can still use your nntp newsreader.

If you intend to use the Web interface with the MS Servers, all you need is a
Hotmail Account to log in. It is the same Username and Password as your
Hotmail Account; or Net Passport, as MS likes to call it.

Then, you log in from any computer.
Below is the entry point for all MS Newsgroups.
For Vista ones(including this one) scroll down to:
microsoft.public.windows and expand it.

Connect directly to the Microsoft support forums by using the Microsoft NNTP
server at msnews.microsoft.com

Click on the above and subscribe directly through Microsoft's news servers.
You don't and never did need Comcast's feeds.

Yes, Comcast is doing that. But I don't find it particularly
unfortunate.

No, that's not at all true. For the Microsoft newsgroups, I recommend
that you use the news server msnews.microsoft.com. For other
newsgroups, there are many other choices open to you. I'm a Comcast
customer too, and since I use text newsgroups only, I switched to the
free news server Motzarella. If you also want some binary newsgroups,
you may want to choose one of the paid-for news servers.

Just in case it's not clear to you, let me point out that almost all
newsreaders permit you to use multiple news-servers. I use Agent, and
I use six different news servers.

I'm with you entirely. Using the web interface is the slowest, most
error-prone, and least attractive way to participate in newsgroups. I
always recommend against it.
