I can't pass validation. I bought this Dell laptop refurbished with the
original product key number on the bottom. I don't know if the windows
installed on it matches the product key. What can i do? Microsoft is not
interested in helping me.

Thanks

Call the Phone Activation number. They (the Indians) are usually good
about authenticating as long as you have a valid COA.

Check the key used for the actual install with Magic Jelly Bean key
finder: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Also look at the Product ID value displayed as the last line in the
"Licensed to" section of Control Panel - System - General.

As your Dell product key indicates that this should be an OEM version
of Windows, preinstalled at the factory, the second segment of the
Product ID will therefore read OEM. If it reads otherwise, e.g. a 3
digit number, then your installed Windows is not an OEM version and it
has therefore been changed at some point.

You may repeat may be able to purchase a replacement Windows CD from
Dell if you contact them with the model number, serial number, and
service tag number from your laptop.

Good luck

Any Dell OEM CD should install fine without entering in a product or
activating, the old time windows will ask for activation if you or someone
else used a non dell oem cd to install windows
