I am trying to upgrade my Win2000 PC to WinXP. After the
install goes through collecting information, completing
the dynamic update and perparing installation, right after
the installing windows portion starts, the install process
stops. There is no message or other information. I have
th shut down and restore the hard drive because if I allow
the PC to boot normally, the install restarts and hangs
again. I had two items the collecting information portion
told me that was not compatable with XP but I have the new
drivers. I tried to do a new install and it worked
correctly. Can anybody tell me how to determine what is
causing the install process to hang?

The best thing to do is format the drive and clean install. Then
reinstall your programs from cd's and restore your data from backup. If
you are doing this and the installation fails, then your hardware is
probably faulty. Do a RAM test and if the RAM is good, test the hard
drive.
