windows updates stuck in control panel

why does all my windows updates go directly into
control panel? why doesn't it go into system32 where they
belong? how do I even know if the updates are active?
and one more question do I really need all these updates
I had been having problems with most updates and restored
my pc several times. now i have sp 1 and 2 items for sp 2
for win xp. i can't understand anything the updates in

and examples? help someone with update for win xp home

What do you mean by "windows updates go directly into control panel"
Many but not all will show in Add/Remove Programs if they have
uninstall capability.

All Critical Windows Updates are needed.
If you remove them, you also remove the fix.

Use the MBSA to verify you have all necessary patches:
