Windows Updates - Installation keeps failing

Hi

I'm new to this, so please bear with me.
I just got my computer a few weeks ago, and my boyfriend
told me that I should get the downloads from the Windows
Updates site.

The installation I'm having problems with is Microsoft.NET
Framework version 1.1.
It downloads okay, but during installation it just clicks
off with no message and returns to the Windows Update
scanning page.

Anyone got any suggestions, in layman terms and in Emglish
PLEASE!!! Thanks
