I go to "Start", then "Windows Update", which takes me to Microsoft. The
banner saids " Checking for the lastest version of the windows
software"....Nothing happens, just sits there at the site.. Is it possible
that the site is down. I have tried to access the site probably 6/7 times in
the past week.. Any advise??
How can I find out If I have SP1 or SP2 installed, and/or where can I
download them. I sent off to Microsoft for the free disc(SP2), haven't heard
from them yet.(been 4 weeks)
Thanks again
Barry

Windows updates works for me.
Go to Control Panel, System to see if SP1 or 2 is installed.

Or, open a Command Prompt window, and enter the command "winver". If you
have either Service Pack 1 or 2 installed, the resulting dialog will show
it.

To download the "full" install package of Service Pack 2, go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
(watch out, this link might break in a non-Outlook Express newsreader).
For those with non-Outlook Express newsreaders, use this URL to download
Service Pack 2: http://tinyurl.com/5bobl

This file is approximately 291mb, so I advise anyone who is on a dial-up
connection to use Windows Update to obtain Service Pack 2.

Hi Barry. Just checked to make sure -- Windows Update is up and working
just fine. However, if you DON'T have at least SP1 installed, it no longer
supports your computer.

Right click My Computer (find it through the start menu) and choose
properties. On the General tab it will tell you your operating system and
if SP1 or SP2 is installed.

You could try the steps in this post to try to get WU to work:

http://groups.google.co.uk/[email protected]

If nothing there worked, try the steps in this post (creating and
running the batch file IEreg.bat):

SP2 is available at the Microsoft Download Center
(standalone "network" version, 266 MB):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a

(disregard the "intended for IT professionals and developers" part,
it can be used on a single computer as well)

If you do not have broadband at home, but you have at work or you have
friends that have it, you can download it there and burn it to a CD.

For folders you can consider deleting and other disk cleanup tips
after a successful SP2 installation, take a look here:
