Windows Update

MICHAEL

Well the new windows update just will not work for me.
If I try the express install or the custom instal I get

"[Error number: 0x80244001]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page. You may find the following
resources helpful in resolving the problem: "

I looked at the resources listed and found one possibility
under the Frequently asked questions section which
required resetting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Window
s\CSDVersion to 0 (it was 100) but this made no
difference. Can anyone please help ?

Hi

The 0x80244001 error is most likely a MSXML installation problem.

Register MSXML3.dll and see if it helps:

1. Click Start.

2. Choose Run.

3. In the Run box, type (or copy/paste from this post)

%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\MSXML3.dll

(note the space there in the middle)

4. Click OK.

If that didn't help, try this:

Unless you have installed Windows XP SP2, download and install
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and see if
it helps.

In the link below, set the correct language for your OS and press the
Go button (in the upper right corner). Then download and run the
msxml3xxx.msi file found at the bottom of Web page (msxml3usa.msi
for English OS).
