How do you prevent XP SP3 from installing updates when you shut the machine
dow? I used to see an update icon in the lower right hand corner of the
screen that I could click and see what in fact was being updated. Any
ideas?

Reconfigure you automatic updates to download only and let you choose when to install.

Did that before I posted, with no effect.
