Windows Update tries & fails to install a security patch because already insatalled

I have an irritating nag from Windows Update trying to install a security update which is already installed. It also tries to install an update to my Nvidia driver which is older than the latest approved driver from Nvidia and which does not work if allowed to install.

I have found that the security patch is already installed which is likely the reason for the installation failure.

How can I correct the Update behaviour?

Hi John,

Unistall the security update, reboot and reinstall it. This often corrects
the problem.
