Windows UPdate site

Anyone else having trouble?
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ times out, won't load etc. Also getting
errors about browser security set too high and so on (changed it to what MS
suggests in the FAQ's).. Never get to the point of the ActiveX checking for
updates.

Office Update site the same thing is happening.

Try this:
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

This is the site it should be redirecting you too. Alternatively click on
the Windows Update option in the start menu. Have you recently visited the
update site? have you updated to Microsoft Update to allow you to also be
notified of any Office updates. There should be an option on the right hand
corner of the update site for you to update to the Microsoft Update option.

What is the link that you are using for MS Settings?

Change your settings Custom Level>Medium
See if that will allow you in.
When entering sites to your trusted sites do not enter the https://www.
Enter
microsoft.com

Remove the check in Requirer https:
