Windows Update Problem

Hi guys a friend has asked me to post a question as he is on talktalk
broadband and they don't do NGs. ok he has windows xp home original
licensed version from PC world and his updates keep failing, could some one
give me any advice please on how to solve the problem or why its not
updating.

He update to windows media player 11 and net framework 2.0 no problem but
his critical updates wont work

ok when he does his updates they say failed at the end of downloading if you
get what i mean

there is free tech support from Microsoft for updating issues.
fill out the form and they will open up a ticket
go the updates webpage and look carefully for
the technical support link....

(my solution was for "unable to update" error.
but yours is a problem indicating a "failure".
